Malaysian VPS

1.
project background and goals
(1) target customer: a chinese cross-border e-commerce company whose target markets are malaysia and neighboring asean countries.(2) main demands: page response time <200ms, payment interface stable, ddos peak period capable of carrying >1gbps attacks.
(3) constraints: compliance requirements, localized domain name management and low-cost bandwidth.
(4) test baseline: initial average delay 220ms, p95 page loading 4.5s, availability 99.2%.
(5) expected results: reduce latency to <80ms, page load p95<1.2s, and increase availability to 99.95%.
2.
overall scheme design
(1) deploy a master node (vps/cloud host) in a local cloud service provider in malaysia to be responsible for business processing and database caching.(2) use anycast+multi-node dns (ttl=300 seconds) to achieve intelligent nearby resolution and failover.
(3) the entire site is connected to cdn (static resource and api cache layering, cache-control strategy), and the cache hit rate target is above 85%.
(4) edge waf is combined with cloud ddos protection to automatically clean large traffic attacks.
(5) the monitoring and alarm system (rtt, packet loss, qps, error rate) realizes minute-level alarms and automatic expansion triggers.
3.
server and network configuration examples
(1) master node configuration example: 4vcpu, 8gb ram, 80gb nvme, public network bandwidth 1gbps (peak), monthly traffic package 2tb.(2) cache node (redis): 2vcpu, 4gb ram, direct connection to the intranet, high-speed io priority.
(3) database node (master-slave): 8vcpu, 16gb ram, 500gb ssd in the master database; reading and writing in the slave database are separated.
(4) operating system and services: ubuntu 22.04 + nginx 1.22 (worker_processes auto, keepalive_timeout 65), php-fpm or node.js process pool.
(5) bandwidth and routing: using bgp multi-line access, the lowest point of delay monitoring is about 45-70ms, and the packet loss rate is <0.5%.
4.
domain name, dns and cdn deployment details
(1) the domain name uses a local registrar and an international registrar, and the dns uses master-slave anycast with ttl=300 seconds to increase the speed of resolution switching.(2) load balancing: l4/l7 hybrid lb, api uses l7 intelligent scheduling, and static resources are directly responded to by cdn nodes.
(3) cdn caching strategy: static resource caching time is 7 days, dynamic api uses edge caching and back-to-source verification, and the overall hit rate is measured to be 87%.
(4) certificate and https: use let's encrypt or a commercial certificate, enable tls 1.3 and ocsp stapling, and reduce the tls handshake delay by about 20-40ms.
(5) performance optimization: enable gzip/brotli compression, image webp conversion and http/2 or http/3, p95 page loading is reduced from 4.5s to 0.95s.
5.
ddos defense and security architecture
(1) edge cleaning combined with large traffic absorption in the cloud: it was actually measured that an attack peak of 1.2gbps was intercepted and cleaned, and 0.01% of business requests failed.(2) waf rules and custom fingerprints: intercept common injections, crawlers and malicious api calls, and intercept >30,000 malicious requests per day.
(3) rate limit and blacklist: set qps limits and dynamic blacklists for sensitive interfaces such as login and payment.
(4) log and traceability: elk/prometheus + grafana realizes real-time visualization and 7-day hot storage and 90-day cold storage.
(5) backup and recovery: daily incremental backup of database, full backup every week, rpo ≤ 1 hour, rto ≤ 30 minutes.
6.
implementation effect and real data display
(1) before deployment: average delay 220ms, p95 page loading 4.5s, availability 99.2%, average monthly bandwidth peak 400mbps.(2) after deployment: average delay 68ms, p95 page loading 0.95s, availability 99.97%, cdn hit rate 87%.
(3) security performance: the actual measurement successfully mitigated the 1.2gbps ddos attack, with a false positive rate of <0.5%.
(4) cost comparison: the comprehensive monthly cost of local cloud master node + cdn + protection is about usd 1,800 (including bandwidth package and cleaning), which saves about 20% compared to latin american nodes.
(5) customer feedback: the payment success rate increased by 3.8%, the conversion rate increased by 6.2%, and the complaint rate dropped by nearly 70%.
7.
sample server configuration comparison table
| node | configuration | public network bandwidth | monthly traffic package | typical average latency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| master node (malaysia) | 4vcpu/8gb/80gb nvme | 1gbps | 2tb | 65ms |
| cache node (redis) | 2vcpu / 4gb / memory priority | intranet | n/a | <20ms (intranet) |
| main database | 8vcpu/16gb/500gb ssd | private line or vpc | snapshot backup daily | 70-120ms |
8.
implementation recommendations and scalability
(1) do a small-scale grayscale deployment first, monitor key indicators, and then switch to full deployment.(2) use automatic expansion policy (cpu>60% or qps threshold) to trigger horizontal expansion.
(3) evaluate cdn rules and cache granularity on a monthly basis to optimize return-to-origin traffic costs.
(4) regularly practice ddos and recovery plans to maintain rto/rpo goals.
(5) it is recommended to retain a local compliance and filing team to handle localized legal and payment issues.
